Itinerary
A deep dive into the Ponga jungle. This route runs through the gorge carved by the Víboli River, linking the high areas of Peloño with the valley of the Ponga River through a wild landscape.
Route Description
The Foz de los Scaffolds is one of those secrets that Ponga jealously guards. Less traveled than its neighboring Peloño forest, this route offers an experience of nature in its purest form, where water and rock are the protagonists.
Although it can be done in both directions, the ideal is to approach it in downhill (requires two cars or a taxi), starting in the area of Les Bedules or Granceno. From the height, we drop towards the valley following the course of the Víboli river, which originates in the bowels of these mountains.
The path becomes progressively narrower. The limestone walls close over our heads, and the vegetation becomes exuberant: hazelnut trees, ash trees and oak trees create a green tunnel that barely lets the sun through in some sections. It is a perfect refuge for hot days.
The sound of water accompanies us throughout the journey until we end up at Puente Huera, near the road that goes up to the town of Viego, the final point of this journey through the humid heart of the park.
💡 Practical Tips
- Logistics: Being linear, plan transportation well. If you only have one car, you can do a round trip from Puente Huera.
- Footwear: The ground is usually wet and slippery, wear boots with good grip.
- Coverage: None inside the gorge.
- Bathing: In summer, some pools in the river invite you to cool off your feet (the water is freezing!).
📸 Key Points
- The feeling of isolation within the gorge.
- The wooden and stone bridges that cross the river.
- The riverside vegetation, almost jungle in some points.
