Route Description

Note: although we list it alongside Ponga because it is close by, the Olla de San Vicente lies outside the Ponga Natural Park, in the neighbouring municipality of Amieva, next to the N-625.

The route to Olla de San Vicente is a magnet for lovers of nature and, above all, water. The Dobra River boasts of having one of the cleanest and most transparent waters in northern Spain, partly thanks to the limestone nature of its basin that gives it that unreal turquoise color.

The walk begins near Tornín, crossing the historic Puente Vieyu (Roman). The path is comfortable and has hardly any unevenness, which makes it a fantastic option to do with children. We walk always lulled by the sound of the river, crossing a riverside forest that offers good shade.

The final prize is the Olla de San Vicente: a large natural pool excavated in the white rock where the river pools. It’s a wild pool perfect for a refreshing swim (very refreshing!) on hot days.

💡 Practical Tips

• Footwear: Although it is easy, the limestones polished by the passage of people are very slippery, especially if they are wet. Wear shoes with good grip.
• Overcrowding: In summer it is very popular. If you are looking for tranquility, go first thing in the morning or out of high season.
• Bathroom: The water is cold even in August. You have been warned!
• Caution: Don’t jump headlong off the rocks; The depth varies and there are submerged stones.
