Tabayón del Mongallu Waterfall

A spectacular 60-meter waterfall hidden in a fairy-tale beech forest. One of the most beautiful and accessible routes in Redes.

The Most Beautiful Waterfall in Redes

In the heart of the Redes Natural Park, near the town of Tarna, hides a natural jewel that seems straight out of a legend: the Tabayón del Mongallu Waterfall. With its 60 meter drop beating over the dark rock, it is a sound and visual spectacle, especially in spring and autumn.

The Route to the Waterfall

The road to get there (PR-AS 60) is as impressive as the final destination.

  • Start: Tarna.
  • Tour: Crosses Mount Saperu, a centuries-old beech forest where the trees seem to hug the path.
  • Difficulty: Medium-Low. It is about 11 km (round trip) with little gradient, suitable for regular hikers.

Natural Monument

This waterfall is not just water; It is a protected ecosystem. Declared a Natural Monument, its environment of moss, lichens and constant humidity is home to species such as the long-tailed salamander. The surrounding beech forest (the fayéu) changes color with the seasons, offering a green tunnel in summer and a burst of copper colors in autumn.

Photography Tip

Bring a tripod if you want to get that silky effect in the water. The waterfall is boxed in and there is usually little direct light, which is perfect for long exposure photography without dense filters.
