The Mirror of the Mountain
Lake Ubales is located at 1,690 meters of altitude, in an austere and spectacular high mountain environment. It is a lake of glacial origin that collects water from melting ice and rain, maintaining a constant level almost all year round.
The Route
Getting here requires effort, but the reward is immense. The most common route starts from the town of Caso or connecting from the Arrudos route. It is a demanding, high mountain hike, recommended for hikers with some experience.
A Place of Calm
Upon arrival, the feeling of isolation is total. The dark waters of the lake reflect the summits of Pico Cascayón and Pico del Viento. It is a perfect place to sit, eat something light and enjoy the solitude of the peaks. In winter, the lake usually remains frozen and covered in snow for months.
