Guanga Waterfall Route

2h (Circular) 3.5 Km 250 m

Itinerary

An oasis of the Atlantic jungle just a stone's throw from Oviedo. This short but intense route runs through a ravine full of waterfalls and pools, ideal for escaping the heat in summer.

Route Description

The Guanga Waterfalls (or Buanga) are a small hidden gem on the northern edge of the Natural Park. Although they are very close to urban centers such as Trubia or Oviedo, as soon as you enter the valley, the feeling of isolation is total.

The route begins in San Andrés de Trubia. The first part is a constant climb along a concrete track and then a dirt track that takes us to the upper part of the valley, where the town of Guanga once existed. Today only ruins remain devoured by vegetation, giving it a mysterious air.

The highlight comes on the descent: a narrow path that zigzags parallel to the stream. Here we will find several waterfalls, the main waterfall being a spectacular double-section fall. The riparian forest, with giant ferns and moss covering the rocks, creates an almost tropical atmosphere.

💡 Practical Tips

  • Footwear: The section of the waterfalls is usually very muddy and the stones are slippery. Essential boot with a good heel.
  • Canes: Very useful for the descent, which is quite steep in some points.
  • Parking: Space in the laundry room is limited. Park with respect for the neighbors.
  • Water: Bring water, although the environment is humid, the initial climb makes you sweat.

📸 Key Points

  • The main waterfall, perfect for long exposure photos.
  • The chestnut forest, especially beautiful in autumn.
  • The views of the Trubia valley from the upper part.
