About the route
The route follows the layout of the road that was first a Roman road and later the main access road to Castile. The path runs along the western slope of the Sierra de la Verde, offering a splendid panoramic view of the Council of Somiedo, the Cornón range and the Sierra del Páramu.
Route Description
This historic route follows the old route of the Camín Real de la Mesa, a fundamental communication route between Asturias and the Meseta since Roman times.
The tour begins at the Puerto de San Lorenzo and heads through the Campa Cueiro, offering spectacular views of the entire park. It is a route, mostly descending and comfortable, that takes us to the picturesque town of La Bustariega.
Along the way, we will enjoy unparalleled panoramic views of the Sierra de la Verde, the Pico Cornón (roof of the council) and the Sierra del Páramu. It is ideal for those who enjoy history and open high mountain landscapes without great physical demands.
Recommendations
Despite its 9 km length, the elevation gain is moderate (150 m) and the profile is mostly downhill, making it an accessible option for those looking for distance without great physical demands. Since much of the route runs along the open slope of the Sierra de la Verde, it’s advisable to carry sun protection and enough water, as well as checking the weather forecast before setting out.
