Itinerary
An immersion in the wildest Asturias. This circular route runs through the impressive beech forests at the foot of the Peña Rueda massif, in the council of Quirós.
Route Description
The Lindes Hayedo (or Vallinona) is one of the most unknown and beautiful forests in Las Ubiñas. Located at the foot of the imposing limestone mass of Peña Rueda (2,152 m), this route allows us to enjoy the high mountain environment without having to reach the summit.
The route starts from Lindes, a town with traditional architecture that seems frozen in time. The path quickly gains height to enter the thickness of the forest. Here, centuries-old beech trees cling to the steep slopes, creating a spectacular play of light and shadow.
Leaving the forest, we reach the high-altitude sheepfolds like Manín, where the landscape changes radically: the gray rock of Peña Rueda rises vertically above the green meadows. It is the perfect place to spot chamois and griffon vultures.
The return to Lindes is done by closing the circle, enjoying the views towards the Quirós valley.
💡 Practical Tips
- Orientation: The forest is dense and there are stretches where the trail gets lost in the leaf litter. It is highly recommended to carry GPS.
- Terrain: There are areas with quite a slope and loose stone.
- Water: Bring enough water, the fountains can be dry in summer.
- Peña Rueda: This route is the base for the ascent to the peak, but that requires high mountain equipment and experience.
