Itinerary
A trip to the rural essence of Ponga. This circular route (PR.AS-213) connects the most emblematic towns in the valley—San Juan de Beleño, Sobrefoz and Abiegos—through historic paths and ancient forests.
Route Description
If you want to know the true identity of Ponga, this is your route. Far from the great peaks, the trail PR.AS-213 immerses you in the traditional life of the valley, connecting three of its most important towns.
We depart from the capital, San Juan de Beleño, with its beautiful Indian mansions and granaries, under the watchful eye of Pico Tiatordos. The road first descends towards Yano, a small rural town that preserves all its charm.
From there, we went down to the river to reach Sobrefoz, famous for the architectural quality of its houses (such as the Casa de la Meruxa) and its palace. It is the lowest point on the route and a perfect place to admire how man has adapted to this rugged terrain.
The return begins gently towards Abiegos, another natural balcony. The last section is the most demanding: a decisive climb known as the “Cuesta de Abiegos” that returns us to San Juan de Beleño, closing a perfect circle of ethnography and nature.
💡 Practical Tips
- Direction: It is recommended to do it clockwise (Beleño -> Sobrefoz -> Abiegos) to better manage the unevenness.
- Water: You will find sources in all the towns (Beleño, Yano, Sobrefoz, Abiegos), so it is not necessary to carry a lot of weight.
- Footwear: Although it travels along local roads, there are stretches of cobbled path that are slippery in the rain.
- Gastronomy: Take the opportunity to try Beyos Cheese in one of the bars in the towns you visit.
