Puerto de la Cubilla

Known as the 'Asturian Tourmalet', it offers alpine landscapes of endless green meadows and limestone rock.

A Postcard Landscape

The Puerto de la Cubilla, which connects Asturias with León, is one of the most beautiful and unknown mountain passes in northern Spain. The road leading up to it is an engineering marvel that winds between the rocks and offers ever-expanding views.

Sea of Clouds

Often, as you climb, you pass through the fog to emerge into a radiant blue sky with a “sea of clouds” beneath your feet.

Mountain Livestock

When you reach the top, you will find immense alpine meadows where hundreds of cows and horses graze freely during the summer. The contrast of the intense green of the grass with the limestone gray of the Ubiña Massif in the background is the perfect image of the Cantabrian Mountains. It is an ideal place for a picnic, walking aimlessly or beginning ascents to nearby peaks.
