Lake Valley Route

Route Description

The route to Lago del Valle (PR.AS-15.1) is, possibly, the busiest in Somiedo, and there is no shortage of reasons. It is an accessible route that summarizes the essence of the park: glacial valleys, brañas, forests and high mountain lakes.

We leave from the town of Valle de Lago, passing through the picturesque neighborhood of L’Auteiro, where we will see good examples of traditional architecture. The track advances comfortably between harvested meadows until it reaches a key fork:

1. Camino del Sol (Left): It is the main track, wide and comfortable. Perfect for climbing, as it offers a clear view of the perfect “U” shape of the glacial valley.
2. Shadow Path (Right): It enters the opposite slope through a leafy beech forest. It is ideal for the descent or for very hot days, providing freshness and a more intimate atmosphere.

Both roads converge at Lake del Valle, an impressive body of water measuring 24 hectares and more than 40 meters deep, guarded by imposing peaks. In the center of the lake there is a small island, and on its shores it is easy to relax listening to the water.

💡 Practical Tips

• Variant: We recommend going up by Sol (enjoy the views) and going down by La Sombra (rest from the heat).
• Bike: The Camino del Sol is suitable for mountain biking, although with sections of constant slope.
• Livestock: It is a pasture area, keep the gates closed and do not disturb the animals.
• Water: There is a fountain near the lake, under the Corba teito.
