About the species

The roe deer is the smallest and most agile deer of the Asturian natural parks. Shy and solitary, it prefers forest edges at dawn and dusk. Its branched antlers, renewed each year, and characteristic white rump patch make it unmistakable in the vegetation.

Habitat
Mixed oak and beech woodlands with clearings and grassy areas. It frequents forest edges, wooded riverbanks and mountain meadows between 200 and 1,800 m.

The most discreet inhabitant of the forest

The European roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) is the most widespread deer in Asturian natural parks. Despite its abundance, its elusive nature makes every sighting a rewarding experience.
