The Muniellos Anteroom
If Muniellos is the forbidden sanctuary (due to its restricted access), the Moal Forest is its welcoming and open brother. Located right at the gates of the reserve, this forest shares the same ecological richness and beauty, but without the need for special permits to visit it.
The Moal Forest Route
From the picturesque town of Moal (“the village of the doors”, so called because of its peculiar layout), a circular route (PR-AS 132) departs and is a delight:
- Tour: It enters a mature beech-oak forest, crosses streams of crystalline water and ascends to the Montecín Viewpoint.
- El Mirador: From above, you will have a privileged view of the town of Moal nestled in the valley and, in the background, the impregnable thickness of Muniellos.
Rural Life and Nature
The town of Moal has managed to preserve its essence. Its neighbors coexist with the brown bear (it is common to see footprints or destruction in nearby beehives) and keep traditions alive. Walking through its streets, seeing the cortinos (circular stone constructions to protect beehives from bears) and chatting with local people is part of the experience.
Who is it for?
It is the perfect alternative if you did not get a ticket for Muniellos or if you are traveling with children and dogs (which cannot enter the comprehensive reservation). Here you will enjoy the same enchanted forest atmosphere with total freedom.
