In the southwest of Asturias, the vine is grown in extreme conditions. The steep slopes of Cangas del Narcea, protected by the valley’s microclimate, are home to vineyards with centuries of history. Machines don’t come in here; All the work is manual, a titanic effort that has been recognized as Heroic Viticulture.

This area produces the only wines with a Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) in Asturias. Native varieties such as Albarín, Verdejo Negro or Carrasquín give rise to fresh, mineral wines with a lot of personality, which reflect the hardness and beauty of the landscape.

Visits and Wineries

Many wineries offer guided tours where you can walk among the vines, learn how wine is made and, of course, taste it. It is an essential cultural and gastronomic experience to understand life in these valleys.
